Closing Bell: Sensex up 639 points, Nifty above 24,200

Stock markets ended on a positive note on Tuesday. Market sentiment was supported by US President Donald Trump’s comments on the Iran conflict and a decline in global oil prices. Investors also reacted positively after a period of heavy selling.

The BSE Sensex rose 639.82 points to 78,205.98, up 0.82 per cent. The Nifty 50 gained 233.55 points to close at 24,261.60, up 0.97 per cent.

Among sectors, banking, IT, and energy shares contributed to the gains. Midcap and smallcap stocks also saw buying interest. Traders said easing global tensions and lower crude prices lifted risk appetite. Brokers advised investors to remain cautious amid volatility but noted that short-term positive momentum continued in equities.
