“We’ve been in business three and a half years,” said Southworth. “About a year ago, we moved to a new location in Grass Valley from Nevada City. We started hosting monthly Friday night cruising events, where we feature a food truck of some sort, some live music. We allow folks to bring a classic car—kind of like a free car show.”

Through fair weather months, Southworth and partner Sergio Edell will continue to hold those Friday night events and decided to gild the lily and add a vintage-centric swap meet twice a year; the June 28 date will be the first.

“We are featuring mostly car and automotive stuff, motorcycle parts, but we’re also open to vintage antique clothing, household items, memorabilia, artwork, things like that,” Southworth said.

Usually, said Southworth, each Friday night cruise will have one food truck, but for the Swap Meet they will have more than a couple available, and there will be music to dance along to.

While the business is focused on the classic rides of days gone by, the Swap Meet will be more geared toward the meet and the treasures people will both bring and find.

“In this case, with this being mostly a focus on swapping, this isn’t so much just for cars,” Southworth said. “We’ll have a couple cars outside and featured just for fun, but this will be primarily for our community and our customers and car enthusiasts to swap all things old and vintage.”

Vendor spots are being booked in advance for $35 each which includes a 10 x 20 foot space from which items can be sold. Southworth said that with the 7 a.m. start time, vendors will likely be rolling in to set up as early as 5 a.m. Parking lot attendants will be present to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Southworth said they were encouraging pre-reservation “because that helps us line out a little more of a section of the vintage clothing and household versus car and automotive stuff; we kind of separate a little bit.”

The Gold Country Classic Cars Swap Meet is free to attend and open to the public, providing a chance to shop and experience all things vintage.

“For those that want to sell, hopefully they’re able to re-home some of their collectibles and special items that someone else will enjoy,” Southworth said.
