Mutual Fund industry adds 20 lakh new folios in June 2026


According to the latest industry data, the Indian mutual fund industry added 20 lakh new folios in June 2026, taking the total folio count to 27.86 crore from 27.66 crore in May 2026. On a year-on-year basis, the number of folios grew by 15%.

Meanwhile, the estimated number of unique investors, based on PAN and PEKRN, also continued to rise, increasing to 6.19 crore in June from 6.17 crore in May.

The industry’s average assets under management (AAUM) for the month increased to Rs. 84.18 lakh crore from Rs. 83.47 lakh crore in May 2026. Compared to June 2025, the total AUM grew by 11%, while AAUM rose by 13%.

Inflows for the month

The mutual fund industry recorded net outflows of Rs. 52,949 crore in June 2026, an improvement over the Rs. 64,021 crore net outflow seen in May.

Among open-ended schemes, equity-oriented schemes attracted net inflows of Rs. 28,973 crore while hybrid schemes received Rs. 12,893 crore. However, debt schemes witnessed net outflows of Rs. 1.09 lakh crore, largely due to redemptions from liquid and overnight funds. Other schemes, including ETFs and index funds, recorded net inflows of Rs. 16,724 crore. Close-ended schemes saw a net outflow of Rs. 2,806 crore.

NFO activity

The industry launched 7 new open-ended funds in June 2026, mobilising around Rs. 460 crore. These included 1 Large and Mid Cap Fund, 1 Aggressive Hybrid Fund, 3 Index Funds and 2 ETFs.

Under the Specialized Investment Fund (SIF) framework, 6 new schemes were launched, mobilising Rs. 1,740 crore. These included 3 equity-oriented long-short strategies and 3 hybrid long-short strategies.

T30 and B30 AUM

By the end of June 2026, the T30 cities accounted for Rs. 66.35 lakh crore of AUM, while B30 cities contributed Rs. 15.88 lakh crore.

Direct plans accounted for Rs. 36.69 lakh crore, whereas regular plans held Rs. 45.54 lakh crore of the industry’s AUM.

Ticket size

The average ticket size of the retail segment in B30 towns was around Rs. 1.05 lakh, while in T30 cities it stood at Rs. 2.73 lakh.

The combined average ticket size for retail investors across T30 and B30 cities was Rs. 1.89 lakh, while the industry’s overall average ticket size (retail and corporate combined) was Rs. 2.95 lakh.

SIP activity

SIP inflows reached a new high of Rs. 31,781 crore in June 2026. The total SIP AUM rose to Rs. 17.70 lakh crore, accounting for nearly 21% of the industry’s overall AUM.

During the month, 55.51 lakh new SIP accounts were registered, while 50.64 lakh SIPs matured, were closed or paused. Outstanding SIP accounts stood at 10.52 crore, with 9.78 crore actively contributing during the month.

Around 8.47 crore SIP accounts (80.57%) were invested in equity-oriented schemes, while debt (excluding liquid and overnight funds) and hybrid schemes together accounted for 67.36 lakh SIP accounts or 6.41% of the total.

ARN registrations

A total of 5,512 new MFDs joined the mutual fund industry in June 2026 while 4,937 ARNs were renewed during the month.

Maharashtra accounted for the highest share of new ARN registrations at 18.96%, followed by Uttar Pradesh (10.40%) and Gujarat (9.23%).
