Chinese Equities Poised for Continued Gains in H2 2026, Banks Say – News and Statistics

Domestic and global banks have signaled expectations for equity growth in Chinese stocks, citing stronger earnings and exposure to the energy transition, according to a report from the South China Morning Post.

Chinese equities may continue their upward trajectory in the second half of the year, supported by resilient exports and recovering producer prices, while the impact of high oil prices diminishes, according to brokerages both in China and abroad.

Guosen Securities projected that average full-year earnings growth for companies listed on the mainland could accelerate to 10 percent, driven by economic strength, and that households might channel 2 trillion yuan (US$294 billion) into equities. Founder Securities made a similar forecast, estimating earnings growth between 10 and 15 percent due to a rise in factory-gate prices.

Midyear equity strategy reports from global investment banks also indicated further upside for Chinese stocks through the remainder of the year. HSBC Holdings stated that the CSI 300 Index would end 2026 at 5,400, representing an 11 percent increase from the most recent close. Morgan Stanley predicted that the benchmark would reach the same level over the following 12 months, while also forecasting a 27 percent gain in the MSCI China Index through the end of the second quarter of 2027.

David Chao, a strategist at US money manager Invesco, commented that China appears particularly well-insulated from higher oil prices due to its electrification efforts and more diverse energy mix. He added that the country is likely to benefit from the energy transition, as seen in the ongoing strength of new-economy sectors, with export growth expected to remain robust, especially in alternative energy technology and electric vehicles, as the world seeks greater resilience to future energy shocks.

Chinese stocks are set to close the first half with gains, with the CSI 300 having risen about 5 percent since the start of the year. Technology companies, including artificial intelligence chipmakers and producers of optical modules used in AI data centres, have contributed the largest share of those gains, as investors view China as a critical part of the supply chain for the world’s most cutting-edge technologies.

A gauge of the Shanghai exchange’s tech board has surged more than 50 percent this year.
