Buckinghamshire ranks 13th of 47 UK counties and nations for Premium Bonds winners

New research has revealed how Buckinghamshire compares with the rest of the UK for producing Premium Bonds winners.

The study, from Bitz.io, ranked every UK county and nation by the number of high-value winners (every prize of £1,000 or more) they returned for every 100,000 residents across the last 12 monthly draws.

How Buckinghamshire performed

Buckinghamshire ranked 13th of 47 UK counties and nations, returning 453 high-value Premium Bonds winners for every 100,000 residents. Across the 12 monthly draws, 4,010 winning Bonds in the county shared prizes worth £11,627,000, an average of about £2,900 for each winning Bond.

That places Buckinghamshire just below Gloucestershire (457 per 100,000 residents) and just above Norfolk (452) in the national ranking.

Buckinghamshire sits in the South East region, which ranked 2nd of the 12 UK regions and nations for winners per head.

Nationally, Dorset topped the table on 590 winners per 100,000 residents, while Greater London recorded the most winners in raw terms (23,263) but ranked 36th once population is taken into account.

The UK’s top 10 Premium Bonds hotspots

Rank County/nation Region Winners (£1,000+) Winners per 100,000 residents
1 Dorset South West 4,717 590
2 Surrey * South East 7,264 582
3 West Sussex South East 5,166 565
4 Cornwall * South West 3,162 540
5 East Sussex South East 4,338 514
6 Devon South West 6,430 513
7 Suffolk * East of England 3,831 487
8 Hampshire and Isle of Wight * South East 9,914 481
9 Bristol South West 2,310 467
10 Hertfordshire East of England 5,772 467

“Greater London produced the most winners in sheer numbers but drops to 36th when you adjust for population, which tells you something about how many UK residents hold bonds outside the capital. Additionally, the number of rural counties at the top suggests these areas hold more bond value per head, which points to wealth distribution as much as anything else.”

Commenting on the findings, Gabriele Asaro, Head of Research at Bitz.io, said:
