Singapore: Reed Smith APAC funds head to join Simmons

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has hired funds expert Han Ming Ho as a partner in Singapore from Reed Smith, where he headed the asset management and investment funds practice. Ho is set to join Simmons & Simmons shortly.

With experience advising investment managers, sponsors and institutional investors on the structuring, formation and operation of investment funds across the Asia-Pacific region, Ho’s practice covers a broad range of strategies and structures, including hedge funds, private equity, real estate, private credit and special situations funds.

His expertise spans both manager-side and investor-side mandates. He also advises fund clients in the digital assets ecosystem and on the tokenisation and structuring of tokenised funds for offerings in the Asia-Pacific region.

A key focus of Ho’s practice is guiding clients on the establishment and expansion of Asia-Pacific based operations, particularly in Singapore, covering fund structuring, licensing and financial regulatory matters. He also advises on the Singapore domiciliation of fund platforms, including the re-domiciliation of offshore structures into Singapore vehicles.

Ho joined Reed Smith in 2023 from Sidley Austin; he was earlier a partner at Clifford Chance. At both Sidley and Clifford Chance, he established and led the Singapore investment funds practices, a Simmons & Simmons statement said.

“Han Ming is a highly regarded funds practitioner with deep expertise across fund formation and financial regulatory work, and has a strong track record advising managers and investors on complex, cross-border mandates,” said David Williams, partner and head of the investment funds and private assets team at Simmons & Simmons, in the statement.

With Ho’s arrival, Simmons & Simmons will have 11 partners in Singapore. This year the office has welcomed Michelle Phang as partner and head of M&A for Southeast Asia from Ashurst, and also witnessed the departure of disputes partner Terence Seah to Virtus Law.
