Forex taken during Kempton Park cash-in-transit robbery – LNN


Sebenza police have launched an investigation following a cash-in-transit robbery that took place yesterday at the intersection of Zuurfontein Road and Green Avenue in Spartan, Kempton Park.

According to Sebenza police spokesperson Sergeant Sharon Tsotsotso the complainant in the matter was on duty collecting foreign currency at an SBV premises in Spartan, reports Kempton Express.

He had collected approximately eight bags of forex and was travelling alone in a Toyota Hilux en route to Johannesburg.

“About 4km from the premises, he was allegedly ambushed by suspects travelling in a white Mercedes-Benz and two other unidentified vehicles, believed to be a bakkie and a sedan,” she said.

The suspects reportedly opened fire on the vehicle.

“The driver was forcefully removed from the bakkie, which was subsequently blown up using explosives. The bags containing the foreign currency were taken, along with the driver’s firearm,” said Tsotsotso.

An off-duty officer from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department witnessed the incident.

The driver sustained minor injuries during the attack and was transported to Arwyp Hospital for medical treatment.

No arrests have been made at this stage. Police investigations are ongoing.
