Japan has warned the US after several US government accounts used well-known Japanese characters, Pokemon, Mario, Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh!, in memes. Japan officials reportedly told US authorities that using these characters without permission could damage the image of the global brands behind them. It added that public institutions should obtain permission before using copyrighted works.
