Crexendo has appointed Chris Aaker as chief technology officer as part of a planned succession within the cloud communications company’s technology leadership team.
Aaker will assume the position in August 2026. He currently serves as Crexendo’s senior vice president of engineering and has spent nearly two decades with NetSapiens and Crexendo.
He began his career with NetSapiens as an intern before advancing through a series of increasingly senior engineering and leadership roles.
Crexendo said Aaker’s promotion demonstrates the company’s focus on developing internal talent and maintaining continuity across its technology organization.
In his current role, Aaker helps establish Crexendo’s technology strategy and leads the engineering organization responsible for the NetSapiens platform, which serves nearly eight million users.
He has also played an important role in platform modernization, system reliability, cloud architecture, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence initiatives and technical due diligence associated with strategic transactions.
As chief technology officer, Aaker will guide Crexendo’s broader technology strategy and work with the company’s engineering, product and operations teams to advance its cloud communications platform.
David Wang, Crexendo’s current chief technology officer and one of NetSapiens’ founders, will remain with the company on a full-time basis.
Wang will transition to the position of senior vice president of platform and architecture, allowing Crexendo to continue benefiting from his technical knowledge, industry experience and understanding of the company’s platform.
Crexendo said Wang’s continued involvement will provide continuity during the leadership transition while supporting the company’s next stage of technology development.
As a NetSapiens co-founder, Wang helped develop the technology and operating culture that became central to Crexendo’s cloud communications platform.
The succession plan places Aaker in charge of the broader technology organization while retaining Wang’s expertise in platform development and architecture.
Aaker holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering from San Diego State University.
He is also a named inventor on a U.S. communications technology patent and has expertise in real-time communications, Session Initiation Protocol, voice, messaging and cloud-based communications architecture.
Crexendo provides cloud communication software and services, video collaboration tools and managed information technology services to businesses.
The company’s technology supports millions of users through more than 245 cloud communications platform software subscribers and Crexendo’s direct retail operations.
