Chris Cochrane Appointed Chief Information Officer at Aviva


London, United Kingdom, August 2026 — Aviva has appointed Chris Cochrane as its Chief Information Officer (CIO) and a member of the Group Executive Committee, effective July 2026. He also joins the Aviva Central Services Board, where he will play a pivotal role in shaping the insurer’s technology strategy and digital future.

With more than 20 years of technology leadership experience across the financial services and telecommunications sectors, Chris Cochrane brings deep expertise in enterprise technology transformation, digital innovation, cloud platforms, cyber security, and operational resilience. As Chief Information Officer, he will be responsible for all aspects of technology across Aviva, leading the Group’s technology strategy with a focus on cyber security, artificial intelligence, cloud transformation, digital innovation, data capabilities, platform modernisation, operational resilience, and customer-centric technology solutions.

Prior to joining Aviva, Cochrane spent eight years at M&G plc, most recently serving as Group Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO), where he led enterprise technology strategy and large-scale digital transformation initiatives. During his tenure, he also served as Interim Chief Operating Officer, further broadening his executive leadership experience across operations and technology.

Earlier, Cochrane enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than 11 years at BT, holding several senior leadership positions including Chief Information Officer, BT Global Services, Chief Information Officer – Service Delivery, Openreach, Director – Design & Delivery, Global Banking & Financial Markets, Programme Director – Transformation, and technology leadership roles supporting BT’s 21st Century Network Deployment. He began his professional career as a Software Engineer with Openwave Systems, building a strong technical foundation that has underpinned his progression into global executive technology leadership. Cochrane also holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Major Programme Management from the University of Oxford, further strengthening his expertise in leading complex enterprise transformation programmes.
