China respects RI’s commodity export move, urges policy stability

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong said Beijing respects Jakarta’s decision to centralize strategic commodity exports through state-owned DSI, while urging policy stability to protect market confidence and bilateral trade.

“We understand Indonesia’s efforts to optimize the management of its strategic resources and enhance resource utilization in light of its national development needs,” Wang stated in a written interview with ANTARA news agency.

Responding to the launch of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI)—a state-owned sole exporter created to halt illegal under-invoicing and transfer pricing—Wang affirmed China’s commitment to policy coordination with Jakarta.

He emphasized that the industrial and supply chains between the two nations remain deeply integrated and complementary.

However, the envoy urged Indonesian authorities to maintain regulatory predictability as the new entity assumes control over key export commodities, including coal, palm oil, and ferroalloys.

“We hope that during the implementation of such policies, Indonesia will fully take into account the views of all stakeholders, strengthen research and assessment, and ensure policy continuity, stability and predictability,” Wang remarked.

He added that timely implementation measures would prove essential to “fostering market entities and facilitating business development.”

By safeguarding investor confidence, Wang noted, Indonesia can preserve a sound operating environment and ensure bilateral economic ties “remain strong and yield concrete outcomes.”

Under the government’s roadmap, DSI operates under Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara.

The rollout follows a two-phase schedule: supervising export reporting through December 2026, before transitioning into a full-fledged international trading company starting January 1, 2027.
