The Town of West Hartford will have two town employees out and about taking pictures of the town’s parcels through 2026.
Town of West Hartford
WEST HARTFORD, CT — A major property revaluation in town is slated for 2026, and work toward that has already started in town, according to local officials this week.
So if you happen to see a couple of individuals with lanyards around their necks, they’re town employees taking photographs of every parcel of property in town. This massive effort won’t be complete until 2026.
The West Hartford Assessment Office is taking high-resolution photographs of all 22,481 real estate parcels in town in preparation for the next state-mandated revaluation in 2026.
A revaluation — or “reval” as it’s commonly referred to — is when property values are assessed and revalued. It is a key tool in calculating taxes for taxpayers and for those selling properties.
Joseph Dakers Sr., West Hartford’s director of assessment, said West Hartford residents will see town property appraisers taking photos of their property now through Oct. 1, 2026.
“Photos are usually taken from the street and our staff will not enter private property without attempting to notify the property owner first,” said Dakers.
Images captured are integrated into the town’s assessment database and can be easily accessed through the Town of West Hartford Assessment website.
Accuracy, transparency, and efficiency are central principles in property assessment procedures, local officials said.
Photos not only provide valuable visual evidence but also foster trust and understanding during the assessment process, the town wrote in an announcement.
Property appraisers will always have identification and will be driving town vehicles marked with the “Town of West Hartford” logo.
The employees expected to be out taking pictures are Martyna Srebrna and James Williams, whose pictures have been posted on the town’s Facebook page for taxpayers to notice.
