Speaking post-match, Wright was keen to share his sympathy for Woodhouse, who had been growing more and more frustrated by a number of bounce outs during the contest. “He’s got these deep grooves in his darts and he just kept hitting that. So he lost a lot of darts,” Wright explained.

And as is often the case, Wright could call upon great support from those in attendance. “Mensur is out now, so I’ve got the whole crowd wanting me to win. Thank you very much!” ‘Snakebite’ called out in the arena.

That’s not to say that Wright is without complaint however. “It is really, really hot up here and it’s really, really hot in the practice room as well. I feel sick, I’ve got a headache and every time they are shouting or whistling it’s just like: Oh my god…” Wright trails off. “But yeah, thank you for the support. You’ve all been amazing.”
