Dow futures fall 700 points; Dollar weakens after tariffs take effect


US Stock Market Live: Futures on Wall Street are off to a negative start after regular trading closed on Tuesday, ending yet another session marred by wild swings. The Dow Futures are down over 650 points, while those linked to the S&P 500 are down 100 and the Nasdaq are down over 330 points respectively. US benchmark indices, which at one point, were trading with gains of over 4%, reversed all of those, after the White House announced that the reciprocal tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump, including the additional tariffs on China, have taken effect.

US Stock Market Live: Futures on Wall Street are off to a negative start after regular trading closed on Tuesday, ending yet another session marred by wild swings. The Dow Futures are down over 650 points, while those linked to the S&P 500 are down 100 and the Nasdaq are down over 330 points respectively. US benchmark indices, which at one point, were trading with gains of over 4%, reversed all of those, after the White House announced that the reciprocal tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump, including the additional tariffs on China, have taken effect. Chinese Premier Li Qiang said his country has ample policy tools to “fully offset” negative external shocks. Long-term Treasury yields soared after a lackluster US sale of notes highlighted cracks in the haven status of government debt. The Dow Jones ended over 2,000 points off the day’s high.
