Kalyan Ram’s action drama opens with Rs 3 Crore

Starring Nandamuri Kalyan Ram and seasoned actress Vijayashanti, the eagerly awaited Telugu action drama Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi finally debuted in theatres on April 18, 2025, to a resounding reception from both reviewers and viewers. With its portrayal of a nuanced and intense mother-son relationship, the movie represents a significant comeback for the pair.

Pradeep Chilukuri, who is most known for directing Raja Cheyyi Veste (2016),Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi pushes Kalyan Ram beyond his typical on-screen persona by fusing suspenseful elements with high-octane action and multi-layered storytelling. The actor is most recognised for his ease in action-packed parts, but the additional emotional nuance and plot twists give him a chance to show off a different side.

At its core, the film revolves around Arjun Vishwanath (Kalyan Ram), an aspiring IPS officer, and his mother Vyjayanthi (Vijayashanti), a principled and upright police officer. However, when Arjun turns to vigilantism to combat injustice, a rift develops between them. “Arjun takes up the path of violence to become a vigilante in the city. Upset with his choices, Vyjayanthi keeps him away,” the synopsis reveals.

According to early estimates from Sacnilk, Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi earned approximately Rs 3.00 crore on its opening day across India, showing promising signs despite stiff box office competition. The film recorded an overall Telugu occupancy of 28.34% on Friday.

Here’s a breakdown of the Day 1 theatre occupancy:

Morning shows: 29.79%
Afternoon shows: 30.33%
Evening shows: 26.47%
Night shows: 26.77%

Fans and netizens have praised the film’s emotional depth and well-crafted screenplay, especially commending the on-screen chemistry and performances of Vijayashanti and Kalyan Ram. The film seems poised for steady box office growth over the weekend, fuelled by strong word-of-mouth and the nostalgic pull of seeing Vijayashanti return to the big screen in a commanding role.

A part from Moneycontrol review read, “Kalyan Ram performs well in his role as Arjun who is a man torn between his mother’s expectations and his fight against injustice. He handles the emotional and action parts convincingly. Vijayashanti as Vyjayanthi plays a strict and sincere police officer. Her strong screen presence adds weight to the story especially in scenes with her son. Saiee Manjrekar plays Chitra as Arjun’s wife but her role is small and not very impactful. Srikanth who appears as the new police commissioner delivers a solid performance. On the other hand Sohail Khan’s role as the villain Pathan lacks depth and fails to impress.”
