Crimson Tide Sports Network releases statement on departure of Eli Gold

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – Officials with the Crimson Tide Sports Network released a statement Thursday evening on the departure of longtime broadcaster Eli Gold.

Gold made an appearance on WBRC’s Good Day Alabama Extra Thursday morning with Janice Rogers and Mike Dubberly where he detailed his departure from the university after 35 years.

Although Gold said he was offered to broadcast the 2024 A-Day Game, the offer was conditional, according to Gold.

“There were also papers they wanted me to sign, or a paper, that would pretty much handcuff me to what I could say in interviews such as this. I was not comfortable signing that. I wanted to be able to tell the truth.”

“I’ve had some idea that something was going on,” Gold said. “Even last year when I came back from cancer, I was healthy, I was cleared by the doctors and the university had me just doing the home games. Then they added the road game at Auburn, the Iron Bowl. But, I could tell something was up.”
