JAKARTA – Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid admitted that Komdigi had a constructive meeting with representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation on April 23.
During the meeting, representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation, who were flown directly from its headquarters in San Francisco, had agreed to comply with applicable regulations, including registering as an Electronic System Operator (PSE) in Indonesia.
“So we are in direct contact with the headquarters in San Francisco to send representatives to the Komdigi office physically and agree on several things including a commitment to compliance with applicable laws, namely those related to PP No. 71 of 2019 and Permenkominfo No. 5 of 2020,” said Meutya on Tuesday, April 28.
Where, Meutya emphasized, all PSEs, both foreign and local PSEs, are required to register with Komdigi, in order to protect consumers in the country as users of its platform.
“For today, the Wikimedia Foundation with a team from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has carried out the initial stage of registration, namely submitting the file to the Ministry of Communication and Information, so that it can be completed soon,” he continued.
In addition, Meutya also emphasized that this policy is based on the principles of justice and accountability, so that there should be no platform that is excluded from these obligations.
