England’s Lionesses are the reigning European champions, having won the title in 2022.
They started the defence of their Euro’s title against France.
However, things didn’t quite go to plan and the Lionesses lost the game 2-1.
The result meant that England became the first defending champions in women’s Euros history to lose their opening game of a following tournament.
The Lionesses now play the Netherlands in their second group game on Wednesday night.
Striker Alessia Russo said that the team are feeling positive despite the result.
She explained: “Ultimately we don’t like losing but when a result like that happens you have to reflect and come together as a team.
“We have bounced back before. We know we weren’t up to it against France. For our own standards, we want to be better.”
England manager Sarina Wiegman admitted that the Netherlands match is a must-win game:
“It’s a final for us, we will do everything to win. Every game is must-win. We’ve experienced that before.”
The Lionesses face the Netherlands in Zurich at 5pm UK time.
