7 Best Clean Energy ETFs for 2026 and How to Invest


The First Trust NASDAQ Clean Edge Green Energy Index Fund focuses on clean energy companies that trade on major U.S. stock exchanges. It holds companies that manufacture, develop, distribute, and install clean energy technologies, such as solar, wind, battery storage, fuel cells, and electric vehicles (EVs).

The ETF held $846.3 billion in assets across 52 companies in mid-2026, led by the following five:

  1. ON Semiconductor (ON +2.50%): 11.0%
  2. Bloom Energy: 10.6%
  3. Monolithic Power Systems (MPWR +1.58%): 8.1%
  4. First Solar: 7.6%
  5. Tesla (TSLA +1.42%): 6.1%

This ETF also concentrates its investments among its largest holdings. However, it still offers investors diversified exposure to the clean energy sector, with a greater focus on transportation electrification and the energy sector. Its holdings include companies focused on semiconductors (28.1%), renewable energy equipment (19.0%), specialty machinery (10.6%), automobiles (10.1%), alternative electricity (8.9%), electrical components (6.4%), diversified chemicals (3.8%), general mining (3.5%), and alternative fuels (1.5%).

The fund has a reasonable ETF expense ratio of 0.59%.
