Major Broadway Market renovation plan to move forward

A plan to renovate the Broadway Market has been approved by the Buffalo Planning Board.

The goal is to capture the original design of the market, while improving features like plumbing, electrical and lighting.

Plans call for the rear portion of the parking garage and two existing parking ramps to be demolished and a new surface lot would be constructed. There are also plans for redesigned spaces for existing anchor businesses and new areas to accommodate additional vendors.

There is also the hope for public feedback in the design process when that time comes.

The project would cost an estimated $46 million and would take about two years to complete. A start date for work has yet to be announced.

Capital funding for the renovation project will be provided by Empire State Development.
