Over 12 years after its initial release, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is reworking its Benelux region, giving its renditions of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg a big makeover. Developer SCS Software has given players a tease of what they can expect from the upcoming Euro Truck Simulator 2 rework.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 was released back in 2012, giving players the chance to haul cargo from one side of Europe to the other. The game was renowned for its incredible attention to detail, bringing the biggest cities in Europe to life in-game. Frequent updates to Euro Truck Simulator 2 over the years have only improved the experience, expanding the offerings further into Europe. The game frequently breaks the 50,000 concurrent player mark on Steam, which is incredibly impressive for a game of its size.

In a post on Steam, SCS Software detailed its plans to rework Euro Truck Simulator 2‘s Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, described as an “exciting and long-awaited update to one of the oldest parts of the game’s continental map.” Ten map designers are working on the project, which is “still in its very early stages.” According to the developer, the Benelux region was chosen for an update after it was “a natural progression following the rework of German cities,” with the upcoming changes being made entirely from scratch. Euro Truck Simulator 2 was already one of the best simulator games on the market, but there’s always room for improvement.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 is Reworking the Benelux Region
Perhaps the biggest change coming to the Benelux rework is the addition of several new cities, with only Antwerp and Eindhoven named at the moment as part of the game’s European exploration. The aim of the update is to “breathe new life into an important part of the Euro Truck Simulator 2 world,” promising “a region filled with new sights, landmarks, routes and a more faithful depiction of one of Europe’s most fascinating regions.” While no roadmap has been shared for the update, the post confirms that more news and previews will be coming “in the near future.”
The level of support Euro Truck Simulator 2 has received over the years has to be applauded. SCS Software has managed to maintain a high level of quality while also releasing updates for American Truck Simulator, which is a tough task. There’s even more to come, too, with work ongoing to upgrade the game’s Prism3D graphics engine to ensure Euro Truck Simulator 2 remains relevant for a long time. For many, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is one of the best games to play to relax, and considering its massive Steam player count, it doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere anytime soon.
