4.2 billion tugriks debt on educational loans repaid
AKIPRESS.COM – The Ministry of Education and Science provided the names of people who failed to repay or underpaid loans from the Education Loan Fund last year. Most of the people who took out loans and did not pay them back had ties to politicians and high-ranking government officials. Some politicians defaulted on their loans.
Loan repayments have increased after education loan fund fraud was discovered.
The task force is investigating seven cases of alleged fraud involving education funds. In particular, the grounds for issuing loans worth 230.1 billion tugriks to 3,069 citizens and loans worth 47.1 billion tugriks to 941 students who studied at foreign universities from 1997 to 2023 are being investigated.
As part of the investigation, the working group examined the personal files and materials of 2,288 students and received testimony from more than 1,600 people. About 2,500 violations were identified in the personal files of 1,494 students.
In addition, out of 364 students associated with people with political and cultural influence, violations were identified among 262 students.
A total of 220 students have repaid loans amounting to 4.2 billion tugriks since the creation of the working group.
